Oirase Keiryu, dynamic natural stream and moss covered rock

Oirase Keiryu (奥入瀬渓流) is a scenic mountain stream in Aomori.

It is also known as one of Japan's most popular autumn colors destinations. The stream’s overall length is about 14 kilometers

 

The stream originting at Lake Towada flows along the Oirase Gorge from, winding among trees which become a lush green in spring and summer, and change brilliant shades of red, yellow in autumn.

Its upper stream has a dozen of waterfalls cascade down into the stream, while the middle stream becomes rapids and lower stream eventually turns a slow and clear.

 

A trekking course following the path of the mountain stream leads the most scenic spots such as many bridges, waterfalls along the trail.

The trail is about 9 kilometers long and takes about 2.5 hours to walk one way.

(Access) It is 90 min. by JR Tohoku Mizuumi bus from JR Aomori Station.
